About Me

My name is Richard Osborne and I’m a cinematographer. I love looking at the world differently. I love finding drama and capturing it. I love to allow my camera to be involved rather than to simply observe.

First and foremost, I’m a storyteller. I happen to tell them with a camera in the form of visuals, as opposed to words, but telling stories is why I do what I do, and why I love working in this industry.

I studied at Royal Holloway, University of London, graduating in 2012 having focussed on Directing Screen Fiction. Throughout my time studying DSF, I always found myself more concerned with the technical side of things and especially the visuals, and it wasn’t until I’d nearly graduated that I realised the camera crew was where I truly belong.

Since then I have been carving my way as a freelance cinematographer, taking my learning, my ever growing experience and my innate love for images, and putting them all into practise in a variety of arenas, including short and feature length fiction, documentary, music videos and commercials.

I don’t commit to any project with blinkers on, and understand that at any time, any visual artist could be influence or new direction in which to look. However, my real favourites, and those who have consistently helped me hone my skills and learn what I have learned are: Roger Deakins, Robert Yeoman, Jeff Cronenweth, Barry Ackroyd.
